Meet the team

Stephen Johnson

Stephen is the President and founder of Shake n Brake Racing. The dream began with some inspiration from the movie, "Talladega Nights The Ballad of Ricky Bobby". His hope from the beginning was to bring together like minded cyclists and bring some of the ridiculousness from the movie into the cycling world. Stephen started cycling back in 2018 as off season training while he was playing semi-pro rugby with the Old Blue RFC and NY Knights in New York City. About 5 years ago he decided to give racing a go and was hooked.

When Stephen isn't on the bike you can find him behind the chemistry bench working as developmental chemist at Chartwell Pharmaceuticals .

As Ricky Bobby would say to his rivals, "better get ready cuz I am coming for you"

Jerry Nance

A lifelong cyclist, Jerry has experienced many chapters of his life on two wheels. Whether for work, for transportation, or for recreation, bicylces have always been a mainstay. During his time stuying architecture at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, road biking allowed him to explore the beautiful central coast of California, and eventually led to joining the Cal Poly Wheelman, the university's cycling team.

After moving to New York City in 2009, Jerry's cycling took on a largely practical turn, riding for work as a bike messenger, as well as for year round transportation in the city. Some ten years later and now a business owner in Orange County NY, riding had become a predominantly recreational for Jerry, and once again he found himself exploring the idea of competition. Through group rides with the Orange County Bicycle Club, Jerry met the Shake N Brake crew and is excited to join them for the upcoming season.
